The Little Mermaid Reflection

Here are my reactions and thoughts as I watched The Little Mermaid:


I totally respect Ariel for how uninterested she is is fitting in with the royal life. 

Flounder has the cutest little voice.

Ursula is thicc with two C’s.

Ariel says “I don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be so bad.” Unfortunately all I can think about is how corrupt our world really is. It makes me wish we could get back to being amazed by the things we can make and be thankful for them. 

Ariel also continues to say “I want more.” This is a perfect quote to represent America’s culture. 

She really does have a beautiful voice. Man I love the song Part of Your World. 

I get that Ariel is a mermaid but she does appear very sexualized. Its kinda funny that she even has defined boobs. 

Prince Eric is a cutie. I would honestly be just as smitten as Ariel, if that was the first human I had ever seen. 

I always figured that when mermaids went out of the water they would lose their tail or not be able to breath or something lol.

Omg Ursula’s garden is beyond terrifying… I have no idea how that didn’t freak me out as a child. 

Ariel is completely mesmerized by Prince Eric and cannot even think straight. Must be some crazy love.

Ariel’s waist is very unrealistically thin. 

The scene for Under the Sea is so cute and fun. 

AWKWARD “But daddy I love him” - Ariel is willing to risk her relationship with her father for a man she saw one time and never actually met.

Girl please do not trust the sea witch …. NO don’t do it… ah dang it she’s doing it. I know in the end it all works out but this part still stresses me out.

Oh boy, Ursula saying that boys only really like a pretty face and a nice body is so bothersome. Ariel your personality and your voice are way more important!!!

It is kinda cute that Prince Eric has been thinking about Ariel and looking for her. I can’t decide if I like their love story or find it kind of pathetic or creepy or what. 

Ariel even has cleavage in her dress.

Oh gosh she started brushing her hair with the fork. 

Kiss the girl is really an adorable song and scene all together. I wish my first kiss happen like this. 

Ugh this honestly frustrates me so badly that if only Ariel could talk then everything would be fine but dang Ursula must ruin everything. 

Sebastian and Ariel are very esthetically pleasing next to each other. 

Ursula even looks scary as a human. What a turd. 

I like how all the animals come together to help Ariel and stop the wedding. 

They literally only missed the kiss by seconds that is frustrating. 

Aw Eric is so brave and adorable wanting to save Ariel.

Oh dang I forgot how huge Ursula got… honestly she is just not it. 

Thank goodness for old boats to kill Ursula and restore all the souls she has stolen. 


Now Ariel and Eric get to live happily ever after!!!

Moana is the best Disney movie hands down. As I watch I will point out all the many reasons why! Beauty and the Beast (2017) Reflection

The 2017 version of the Beauty and the Beast is most definitely both new and improved. First of all, any movie with Emma Watson in it is going to be a great movie. I think that she played the role of Belle beautifully. She was a perfect fit to be the lead of this movie for many reason. Disney has been working very diligently to bring light to its name. Many people have been bashing on Disney over the years for portraying negative feminine stereotypes, as well as many other things. I know that Disney made a conscious effort to improve many of the flaws in the original Beauty and the Beast. By choosing Emma Watson they were choosing a woman that is known for standing for women’s rights. Emma is a feminist and has spoken out several times about the importance of equal rights as well as the importance of education for girls. Susan Jeffords’ presents many interesting ideas about how Disney films portray masculinity. In my opinion, parts of her article were difficult to understand or stay engaged with. In the beginning of her article, she talked about Ronald Reagan and George Bush and that did not resinate with me. I understand what she was trying to bring forward outside factors aside form Disney, but I think her arguments would have been more powerful if she just got to the point sooner. I thought that her use of Arnold Schwarzenegger, in Kindergarten Cop was more effective. I like that this type of film  was compared to Disney films. I think her claim that, Kindergarten Cop sends the message that “tough, hard-driving, violent, and individualistic” men are not like that by choice, is very interesting. And I honestly think this is a valid claim. In our society, men are expected to be the tough ones. They should not be emotional, vulnerable, weak, or dependent.
