The Little Mermaid Reflection

Here are my reactions and thoughts as I watched The Little Mermaid: I totally respect Ariel for how uninterested she is is fitting in with the royal life.  Flounder has the cutest little voice. Ursula is thicc with two C’s. Ariel says “I don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be so bad.” Unfortunately all I can think about is how corrupt our world really is. It makes me wish we could get back to being amazed by the things we can make and be thankful for them.  Ariel also continues to say “I want more.” This is a perfect quote to represent America’s culture.  She really does have a beautiful voice. Man I love the song Part of Your World.  I get that Ariel is a mermaid but she does appear very sexualized. Its kinda funny that she even has defined boobs.  Prince Eric is a cutie. I would honestly be just as smitten as Ariel, if that was the first human I had ever seen.  I always figured that when mermaids went out of the water they

This was my favorite trip to Disney because I was 6 years old. I was still so curious and amazed by everything around me. I was also old enough to understand more about how amazing Disney really is. I was able to comprehend the magic that was happening around me rather than just watching in amazement like I did when I was younger. I had a deeper love for the characters at this point in my life because I understood them better and was able to relate to them better. Disney is magical for people of all ages, but there is something special about being 6 years old and going to Disney. I will never forget that trip and the memories I made with my family.

Disney Memory

Pictured here is me, my mom and dad, and my two brothers. This was my second visit to Disney as a child. I remember looking forward to this trip for a whole month. I even packed my bags as soon as my parents told us we were going. I had all of this built up excitement and wonder about what this time at Disney would be like and the trip did not fail to meet all of my biggest dreams. As you can tell by the big smiles on all of our faces, we were all very happy to be there. Sure, my parents probably had to deal with several breakdowns and screaming kids, but looking back we only reflect on how much fun we had together. Disney is a magical place that brings people together. It is a place were parents and their children and siblings experience joy and excitement together. Disney provides memories that will never be forgotten and it makes me very happy to think about the good times I have had with my family, especially being in college now. There is no other place that can give bot

Sleeping Beauty Reflection

As I watched sleeping beauty I realized very quickly that I never watched this movie as a child. I do not feel as though my childhood was any less magical and exciting because I watched one less Disney princess movie. It was interesting to watch it for the first time as a 19 year old college student. I was able to objectively view the film because I did not have any previous attachment to it or love for it. From the very beginning of the movie there were several scenes that portrayed ideas that we have discussed in our writing class. There we many instances where I had to question if they had really said what they said or acted the way that they acted. But I had to keep in mind that this film was made a long time ago and that what was considered okay then is most definitely not okay now.  The most alarming part of the movie were the gifts that were presented from the fairies. There were three gifts given to Princess Aurora on the day of her birth. The first was the gift of beauty,

Frozen is still a hot topic amongst both kids and adults. Haha get it... "hot!" Anyway here is a super cute recipe of a Frozen themed, white hot chocolate recipe.  Best White Hot Chocolate Recipe Ingredients 2 cups of milk or half n half 1 cup white chocolate chips  (I’m very picky about my white chocolate chips.  I swear that no one has a better tasting white chocolate chip than  Ghirardelli chips found here ) 2-3 drops of  blue food coloring   1/4 cup sugar for rims of glasses Best White Hot Chocolate Recipe Directions In a sauce pan place milk or half n half on a low heat. The half and half will give it a rich and creamy taste.  I use a mixture of both but you can do any combination you want as long as the liquid equals 2 cups of milk.  I only buy 1% or 2% milk so the half and half will give it what I need.  You might not need half and half if you use whole milk.  Whole milk has more fat in it than the ones I use.  Now you will add in your white chocolate c

Disney Meme

I must admit when I first saw this meme I laughed a little. But then as I thought on this image a bit deeper, I was disturbed. I was alarmed by the fact that the idea portrayed here is a very common belief in our society. A girls looks can and will get her very far. Stereotypically, guys only care about looks and nothing else. So a girl with a pretty face and nice body is set for life. But I am encouraged because our mindsets are changing. Women are now being seen for their gifts and talents rather than just what is on the outside. A woman voice is now much more powerful than the size of her boobs. Let's not forget it.

Required Post #3

Disney is one of the most powerful and influential companies in the world, if not the most. The Walt Disney company was founded October 16, 1923, and has grown its brand significantly over the years. Disney is responsible for owning Lucasfilm, A&E Networks, ABC Entertainment, ABC Family Worldwide, Marvel Studios and many more.  Disney has obtained the power to control many of the biggest sources of entertainment and news all over the world. And this power has not gone unnoticed. Disney has strategically created an institution that has grown so much that it would be very difficult to bring it down. Disney is aware of their power and has used it to protect their brand and image. When is a lot of power going to become too much power? When will people start to feel uneasy with how much control Disney has over the visual media in the world? When will we start to question what goes on behind the scenes and what it takes to maintain this level of supremacy? The answer is now. Many peopl

My personal favorite desert is chocolate covered pretzels. And decorating them Mickey themed makes it even better! Looks like I just might have to use the common room kitchen after all... I like to use the square pretzels as the base, then just add candy melt/wafers in assorted colors.  Add the candy melts to a plastic freezer bag, microwave in 10 second intervals until just melted, snip a corner and "pipe" the colors on.    Add some sprinkles here and there before the candy is hardened to give some detail and you are pretty much done.   They really are super simple.  I call them minimalistic or abstract Mickey and Friends so I hope you can guess who is who but just in case here they are: I like to use the square pretzels as the base, then just add candy melt/wafers in assorted colors.  Add the candy melts to a plastic freezer bag, microwave in 10 second intervals until just melted, snip a corner and "pipe" the colors on.
