Mulan Reflection

Responses to Mulan: 

I forgot that Mulan started with Shan Yu’s attack as its opening scene .. I now remember that this movie scared me when I was younger.

Even Mulan has animals as friends. Animals are one of the most common themes amongst Disney movies.

“Primed and polished to be the perfect bride” Mulans worth is determined by her appearance and the type of man she gets matched with. The only way she can bring honor to her family is by marrying the best man. 

I was bothered by the fact that her caring characteristics (that were shown with the old men and the children) were dismissed and less important than her performance with the match maker.

I think that the song Reflections is great. Many people, girls especially, struggle to understand who they are and who they want to be. 

“You shall teach your daughter to hold her tongue in the presence of a man” ARE YOU KIDDING ME … I suppose these ideas may be part of their culture but still girls should not be afraid to speak their minds especially not in the presence of a man. 

During the scene were Mulan prepares to take her fathers place all I can think is girl power!!!

Mushu is pretty funny and the perfect use of comic relief 

Shan Yu’s eyes are so freaky 

It is interesting that Mushu has a significantly difference voice form everyone else.

Le Shang is so precious and quite handsome too.

Oh my gosh Mulan is so awkward trying to be a man haha. 

Their group is made up of such an odd bunch but I think that is what makes them so special.

The song “I’ll make a man out of you” is so ironic.

YAS girl you better get that arrow!! See girls can do what boys can do and sometimes even better.

I don’t get how Shan Yu can be so messed up in the head to not have any sensitivity to a little girl ugh.

Mushu pointed out that women care about being hygienic and that men don’t.

The song “A girl worth fighting for” is very interesting … some of the men care what the women look like and other care about how well she can cook but they are all concerned about impressing them … Mulan suggests a woman that speaks her mind and the men immediately dismiss her idea.

I like the scene with the glacier because Mulan saves them all and earns Le Shans trust. Of course she had to get hurt and expose her being a woman. But they should just chill because she still did all of the BA things that the other men couldn’t do.

Aw I like that her three friends were going to come to her rescue when they thought Le Shan was going to kill her.

Shang Yu is everywhere I swear. I remember being terrified during the scene were they pop out of the costume, I definitely cried the first time I watched it.

Mulan to save the day yet again! 

I think it is funny that they dress up as women after Mulan had been dressed up as a man for so long. 

The fighting scene is honestly so intense.

So proud of my girl Mulan… the scenes with her and the emperor and Le Shang are so precious and then the scene with her father is so sweet and it is adorable to see how proud he is of her but more happy that she is alive and okay. 

And of course the little romance factor at the end is the perfect touch.
